Abstract: The catalogue of the exhibition “Le Voci di Roma” (The voices of Rome), held in the premises of the Alessandrina Library of Rome in 1995, can be considered a foundation for the census of Roman dialectal literature. It offers an overview of the authors and publishers of hundreds of works printed in Italy and abroad between 1840 and 1995. The sequence of publications makes it possible to study the interest in the use of Roman dialect in the various historical phases that followed one another during the period. In addition, it allows one to interpret the reasons for the success of its main authors.
